Our Customer Testimonials
You did what you were told. The stretches, the painkillers, the appointments that helped for a week, but not in the long term. The pain came back, settled in, and started shaping how you move through the day.
Back, shoulder, and neck pain that returns every few weeks
Knee, hip, and joint pain that limits the activities you used to enjoy
Headaches, migraines, and jaw tension that disrupt sleep and focus
Sciatica, nerve pain, and inflammation that other approaches have not resolved
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, pain is the body's way of asking for help. Where energy and circulation get stuck, pressure builds up. Acupuncture treatments help reduce pain and activate your body's innate healing system.

How Acupuncture Addresses Pain and Restores Balance
Benefit 1
Free Flow of Qi and Blood
When Qi and Blood stop moving freely through the body, pressure builds up and pain follows. Acupuncture uses fine needles at specific points. It helps improve circulation and release holding patterns that keep pain in place.

Benefit 2
Nourishment for a Run-Down Body
Pain often lingers because the body lacks the energy and nutrients to heal what is hurting. Acupuncture supports your innate healing capacity by restoring the flow of resources to muscles, joints, and connective tissue.
Benefit 3
Treatment Adapted to Each Client
No two pain presentations are the same, and no two sessions look alike at our clinic. Your acupuncturist checks your pulse and tongue. They listen to your story. They adjust your pain management plan to ensure the benefits of acupuncture.

Most clients describe the sensation as a brief pinch. They often feel a heavy or warm feeling at the site. You rest with the needles in place for 20 to 30 minutes. Many clients leave the table feeling lighter, looser, and clearer than when they arrived with no side effects.

Common Questions About Acupuncture for Pain (FAQ)
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most clients describe it as a brief pinch when the needle goes in. The feeling is similar to a small mosquito bite.
Then they feel a dull, heavy, or warm sensation at the site. The needles are extremely fine, far thinner than the needles used for injections or blood draws.
It is so subtle that many clients fall asleep during the session (we call this the Acu Nap).
How many sessions before I notice pain relief?
Many clients notice a shift after the first session. For chronic pain, meaningful change often builds over 4 to 8 sessions. Your acupuncturist will discuss a recommended schedule with you at the end of your first visit.
After that, monthly maintenance sessions help preserve results. Your acupuncturist recommends a schedule based on your pulse, health history and other factors.
Is acupuncture covered by insurance?
Yes. Most extended health plans in BC cover acupuncture when performed by a registered TCM practitioner, with annual limits typically ranging from $300 to $1,000 depending on your plan.
Zen Quest Wellness offers direct billing through TELUS Health eClaims, which covers the majority of major Canadian insurers. In some cases, your insurer may require you to pay at the time of your appointment and claim reimbursement directly — this is determined by your individual policy, not by the clinic.
Note that GreenShield is not currently supported through our direct billing system. If you are unsure whether your plan qualifies for direct billing or would like us to check your coverage before your appointment, give us a call or stop by the clinic and we will confirm it for you.
What types of pain can acupuncture treat?
People use acupuncture for joint, knee, hip, back, neck, and shoulder pain. People also use it to reduce inflammation and manage headaches, migraines, nerve pain and muscle and connective tissue tension.
If you are unsure whether your specific pain pattern is a good match, a brief intake call can help you decide before booking.
How is acupuncture different from other pain management approaches?
Acupuncture differs from most pain management approaches in two ways.
First, it looks at the whole body. Where many treatments focus on the painful site itself, an acupuncturist reads your pulse, tongue, and posture to find the patterns of blockage and depletion across your whole system that allow pain to settle in. Points are then chosen for what your body is showing today, so no two sessions look the same.
Second, it works on a longer rhythm. For chronic pain, meaningful change typically builds over 4 to 8 sessions and is preserved with monthly visits. Acupuncture is now offered at major medical institutions, including the Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic, as part of integrative medicine programs, which means it works well alongside any other care you may already be receiving.
How much does an acupuncture treatment cost?
At Zen Quest Wellness, your initial and follow-up acupuncture treatments (60 minutes) are about $150. But depending on the practitioner and the treatment length, the price may vary slightly.

What should I expect on my first visit?
Your first visit lasts 60 minutes. It starts with intake paperwork.
Then we talk about your pain history and overall health. Your acupuncturist will read your pulse, look at your tongue, and walk you through the points they have selected before the needles go in. You rest with the acupuncture needles in place for 20 to 30 minutes.
What is your cancellation policy?
We have a 24-hour cancellation policy to keep our practitioners' schedules open and available for the rest of our beloved patients.
