The fatigue, the tension, the pain that keeps finding its way back, these are not random. They are a pattern. Most care is designed to address what's visible in the appointment, not the source generating the signal.
Chronic pain, tension, and injury
Stress, burnout, and anxiety
Reducing facial puffiness and wrinkles
Releasing stagnant energy blockage
Effective acupuncture can help with much more than that. Since ancient times, acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has help millions of people reap numerous benefits and manage various conditions.

How ICBC covers acupuncture
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is acupuncture and what does it do?
Acupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine practice that involves inserting fine, sterile needles at specific acupuncture points along the body's meridian system.
This restores the natural flow of Qi, stimulates the nervous system, reduces inflammation, and activates the body's own healing response. Clients use it to address pain, stress, fatigue, hormonal imbalances, and more.
What is acupuncture good for?
Acupuncture therapy addresses a broad range of physical, emotional, and cosmetic concerns, including chronic pain, sciatica, migraines, anxiety, stress, burnout, insomnia, fertility challenges, hormonal imbalances, and facial rejuvenation.
At Zen Quest, the assessment in session one identifies the specific pattern driving your symptoms, so treatment is built around your individual presentation.
Is acupuncture covered by insurance?
Yes. Most extended health plans in BC cover acupuncture when performed by a registered TCM practitioner, with annual limits typically ranging from $300 to $1,000 depending on your plan.
Zen Quest Wellness offers direct billing through TELUS Health eClaims, which covers the majority of major Canadian insurers. In some cases, your insurer may require you to pay at the time of your appointment and claim reimbursement directly — this is determined by your individual policy, not by the clinic.
Note that GreenShield is not currently supported through our direct billing system. If you are unsure whether your plan qualifies for direct billing or would like us to check your coverage before your appointment, give us a call or stop by the clinic and we will confirm it for you.
Is acupuncture safe?
Yes. Acupuncture performed by a registered TCM practitioner using sterile, single-use needles is considered safe for most people.
In British Columbia, all acupuncturists must be registered, which is regulated by the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC (CCHCPBC).
If you have a specific health condition or are pregnant, discuss this with your practitioner before your first session.
How does acupuncture work?
Fine, sterile needles are inserted at specific acupuncture points along the meridian system to restore energy flow through the body.
In Western terms, this stimulates the nervous system, promotes endorphin release, reduces inflammatory markers, and regulates the stress response.
Both frameworks describe the same outcome: a body with greater capacity to regulate and heal itself.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people feel little to nothing on insertion. Acupuncture needles are significantly thinner than hypodermic needles.
Mild warmth, heaviness, or tingling at the needle site is common and signals that the body is responding. Sharp or lasting discomfort is not a typical sensation. Your practitioner adjusts immediately if anything feels uncomfortable.
How much does a one-hour acupuncture treatment cost?
At Zen Quest Wellness, your initial acupuncture assessment and treatment session (60 minutes) is $150, and follow-up sessions (~50 minutes) are about $125. This depends on the practitioner and the treatment length.

Does acupuncture actually work?
Yes, for a wide range of conditions. Acupuncture is one of the most researched complementary therapies in the world, with clinical evidence supporting its effectiveness for chronic pain, anxiety, headaches, fertility support, and sleep disruption.
At Zen Quest, every treatment begins with a root-cause assessment, so the work is targeted precisely to what your body needs.
What is your cancellation policy?
We have a 24-hour cancellation policy to keep our practitioners' schedules open and available for the rest of our beloved patients.
