You have a claim number now. You also have some soreness that was not there last week, and a stiffness that settles in when you sit too long. Underneath that sits a vague sense that you are supposed to know what to do next.
Most of that uncertainty is about entitlement. Here is what is true, laid out simply, so you can settle a little.
What ICBC pre-approves
Twelve acupuncture sessions are pre-approved. That approval is already in place for you. It covers the first twelve weeks after the crash, regardless of fault. You do not need a referral or separate approval from ICBC to begin. The access has been arranged on your behalf.
What you need in order to start
Your ICBC claim number is what you need. You can start as soon as your claim is open. Keep the number somewhere you can find it quickly. If you are unsure whether your claim is open yet, ICBC can confirm that for you.
The other treatments in the same programme
Acupuncture is one part of a wider set of pre-approved care. The same programme also pre-approves physiotherapy, chiropractic care, registered massage therapy, kinesiology, and psychology and counselling. You can draw on more than one as your recovery asks for it.
How the billing works
Many providers bill ICBC directly. In that case, you pay nothing at the session itself. Where a provider does not bill directly, you pay, then submit receipts within 180 days, and ICBC reimburses at its approved rates. Whether Zen Quest bills ICBC directly is worth confirming before you book. Call 236 200 5289 to check first.
What happens after the first twelve weeks
At twelve weeks the arrangement changes. If you have not fully returned to function, health care providers can recommend a benefit extension. The practitioners assessing your progress can guide the next step when the time comes.
When to speak to your doctor
An injury from a crash deserves proper medical assessment before you draw on any form of care. Symptoms that are getting worse, or new symptoms appearing days later, need a doctor. Anyone with signs of a head injury should seek medical care first.
Where this leaves you
Your care is largely arranged already. When you are ready, call 236 200 5289 to confirm the billing arrangement and ask anything still on your mind. The practitioners at Zen Quest can meet you where you stand right now, at your own pace, and take it from there.
