A facial microneedling session at Zen Quest Wellness takes 4 steps.
Readiness check: we review your skin barrier, medications and recent sun exposure.
Gentle cleanse: your skin is cleansed and prepared.
3 passes at 0.25 to 0.5 mm: these create tiny, temporary micro-channels, a process also called collagen induction therapy.
Hyaluronic acid serum: microneedling with hyaluronic acid supports hydration while the channels are open.
A facial microneedling session at Zen Quest Wellness follows 4 steps: a readiness check, a gentle cleanse, 3 passes at 0.25 to 0.5 mm, and a hyaluronic acid serum. The passes create tiny, temporary micro-channels, a process also called collagen induction therapy.
Microneedling with hyaluronic acid then supports hydration while the channels are open. Most clients feel a mild, buzzing warmth and leave with redness like a mild sunburn.

Microneedling Recovery: Your 28-Day Roadmap
Day 1-3
Calm and Protect
Light flaking or peeling may appear as the skin begins to shed. Use a gentle cleanser morning and night, apply daily sunscreen, and skip makeup for the first 24 hours if you can.

Day 4-8
Skin Settles
Redness fades and the skin begins to settle. Many clients notice a fresher, more even look around day 8. Keep up your sunscreen daily and hold off on active ingredients like retinol or acids until your practitioner clears them.
Day 9-28
Collagen Builds
The skin continues to change below the surface as collagen builds over the following weeks. Stay consistent with sun protection, and plan your next session at your day 28 check-in so your practitioner can assess where you are and what comes next.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Does microneedling hurt, and how deep does it go?
Most clients feel a mild, buzzing warmth across 3 passes at 0.25 to 0.5 mm. This shallow depth keeps the sensation manageable and downtime short, while opening channels for the hyaluronic acid serum. If you are sensitive, let your practitioner know at the start of your session.
What is microneedling good for?
Microneedling is a good fit if you want shallow needling with a planned recovery window and a session that pairs hands-on skin care with an integrative plan. Clients at Zen Quest Wellness typically book it for skin rejuvenation, and it works well alongside other facial sessions like acupuncture or lymphatic massage depending on what your skin needs at the time.
Is microneedling covered by insurance?
Yes. Most extended health plans in BC cover acupuncture when performed by a registered TCM practitioner, with annual limits typically ranging from $300 to $1,000 depending on your plan.
Zen Quest Wellness offers direct billing through TELUS Health eClaims, which covers the majority of major Canadian insurers. In some cases, your insurer may require you to pay at the time of your appointment and claim reimbursement directly — this is determined by your individual policy, not by the clinic.
Note that GreenShield is not currently supported through our direct billing system. If you are unsure whether your plan qualifies for direct billing or would like us to check your coverage before your appointment, give us a call or stop by the clinic and we will confirm it for you.
Is microneedling safe?
Microneedling is generally well tolerated when your skin is calm and healthy. At Zen Quest Wellness, every session starts with a skin readiness check and uses a shallow 0.25 to 0.5 mm depth with sterile, single-use needle cartridges.
Redness and light peeling are the most common side effects, and we ask clients with active acne, eczema flares, open wounds, a recent sunburn, prescription retinoids, or isotretinoin (Accutane) in the last 6 months to wait.
How does microneedling work?
Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, uses a device to create tiny, temporary micro-channels in the skin across 3 passes at 0.25 to 0.5 mm.
A hyaluronic acid serum is applied immediately after, absorbing into the skin while the channels are open to support hydration. The process is repeated in a series spaced about 4 weeks apart, as collagen continues to build over the weeks that follow each session.
How long after Accutane can I get microneedling
Wait at least 6 months after your last dose of isotretinoin (Accutane). Microneedling after Accutane also needs a timing check with your dermatologist, since isotretinoin affects how skin heals.
How do I care for skin after microneedling?

What if there's no glow by day 8?
At Zen Quest, every treatment begins with a root-cause assessment, so the work is targeted precisely to what your body needs.
What is your cancellation policy?
We have a 24-hour cancellation policy to keep our practitioners' schedules open and available for the rest of our beloved patients.
